Allstad introduces a green standard for all property development
– We are introducing a comprehensive sustainability platform to ensure that we meet the expectations of the authorities and investors.
Specifically, this means that Allstad is introducing measures in all development projects with clear goals and indicators to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts. Sustainability considerations shall be incorporated into all phases of property development, whether this involves building homes, developing care homes or other types of commercial property.
Reducing our footprint
– It is about preserving nature and reducing pollution, resource use and energy consumption. In this way, we want to take a clear position and reduce our overall impact on the world around us. This is what society expects, both from us and from the property industry as a whole.
Through targeted measures, such as the systematic use of BREEAM certification, reducing our carbon footprint and cooperating with local communities, Allstad is aiming for a green classification in accordance with the European framework.
Long-term opportunities
The commitment to the green transition also provides clear opportunities, not only for society, but for our own business as well.
– It will require both investment and targeted efforts. Nevertheless, the long-term potential is significant. We expect this to increase the value of the properties, provide better financing terms and improve our competitiveness in the market, says Indrebø.
Recognised standard
For example, strict requirements are being introduced in the form of the industry standard BREEAM Excellent for commercial buildings and homes.
– Commercial buildings and other larger buildings will be the first to face EU requirements for energy efficiency and local solar power generation. There is already a willingness to pay for green commercial buildings. Nevertheless, he believes the potential is substantial in many areas.
Board-approved platform
The sustainability platform was recently approved by the board of Allstad Eiendomsutvikling AS. The requirements are linked to energy use, climate, emissions, biodiversity – and social conditions.
– For us, this is a milestone in our work to create sustainable solutions for the property industry of the future. The platform facilitates sound environmental, social and business sustainability efforts, says Allstad’s Head of Sustainability, Marte Bakken.
– Regardless of what we build, whether it is care homes or private residences, we shall take a comprehensive approach to sustainability. We shall reduce our climate and environmental footprint and promote the social dimension. We want to create solutions that promote the well-being of building users, ensure accessibility for everyone and foster social community.
