Young People Take Over Vicarages

The national jubilee “Norway in a Thousand Years” has begun a major youth initiative leading up to the jubilee in 2030. “The Youth War Arrow” mobilizes young people for discussions and artistic work on social values and hope for the future. OVF is making vicarages available for the gatherings. In this way, the properties once again become a central meeting place for important community-building activities. Last autumn, young people from Våler gathered at Våler Vicarage to create a work of art along the new footpath in Våler.

The national jubilee’s project “The Youth War Arrow” was first held during the 1,000-year anniversary of Olav’s meeting with Dale-Gudbrand in 2021. In the Middle Ages, a war arrow was placed in farmers’ fence posts as a signal to mobilize for war. Today, the war arrow is a peace arrow, intended to bring young people together for deliberations on social values and the creation of works of art.

OVF makes suitable vicarages available for gatherings of young people, thereby helping to ensure that the vicarages, which throughout history have been important meeting places in local communities, once again become venues for important deliberations. At Våler Vicarage, it was the artist Ingunn Dybendal who, together with young people from the village, designed what became the artwork on the wall in Våler.
