– The future of elderly care, says the Minister of Health

We are proud to have handed over the care project “Prestegården Housing Cooperative” to Alstahaug municipality. The collaborative project between Allstad and konseptPLUSS consists of 24 homes for round-the-clock care, a day and activity centre, and a base for home-care services.

The homes have been designed to meet future needs for care services, where people can live safely in their own homes, in line with the white paper “Community and mastery — Living safely at home”. The first residents moved in in November.

On this occasion, Alstahaug municipality was visited by Minister of Health Jan Christian Vestre, who stated: «I am very impressed; this is the way to think about dignified and diverse elderly care in the future».

– More municipalities are now starting to think in new and different ways about how care homes can be built, but the way it has been done here, with housing and the co-location of home-based services, is quite unique. I think there is a great deal of inspiration here for other municipalities as well, Vestre told Helgelands Blad.

An example to follow
– It is gratifying that Vestre is showing interest in the project. Together with Alstahaug municipality and KonseptPluss, we have achieved something really good. Here, the municipality has made an active choice to lead the way, and this is an example to follow, says Per Magnus Haugen Presthammer, Director of Property Development at Allstad.

As a state-owned enterprise, Allstad contributes to fulfilling the government’s ambitions for an active housing policy that encourages older people to gain access to suitable housing. Together with municipalities across the country, the company plans to create even more suitable homes for older people, particularly in rural areas.

– This is our first completed care-home project, and we look forward to contributing many more in the future. Allstad has strategically located sites throughout the country with potential for this type of socially beneficial development project, which can ease the pressure on municipalities’ need for nursing-home places while offering clear advantages.

... for residents:

  1. Live in their own home for as long as possible.
  2. Favourable housing costs.
  3. Security and immediate proximity to health and care services and common areas.

... for municipalities:

  1. The housing cooperative model provides reduced investment costs for care homes and service buildings, as well as potential operating savings through co-location.
  2. A simplified process in the form of an exemption from procurement regulations, provided that the municipality conducts an independent legal assessment.
  3. The pressure on nursing-home places may be reduced.

The facility has been built on the grounds of the vicarage, which is also why it has been named “Prestegården Housing Cooperative”. More information at https://www.prestegardenborettslag.no/

– The collaboration with Alstahaug municipality on this project has been a good example of how private and public stakeholders can work together to address the challenges of the future. It is also very exciting to see that the collaboration model between Allstad and konseptPLUSS stands strong, says Alexander Grønlien, Managing Director of konseptPLUSS.
