A strategy to ensure the rehabilitation of church buildings for the future

The new church preservation fund will be administered from Trondheim, but will cooperate with cultural heritage professionals in other parts of the country, such as the Building Conservation Centre in Røros.

In addition, cooperation with the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and the Church of Norway is important, says Minister of Health and Care Services Ingvild Kjerkol (Labour Party) in the press release. The press release states: «The model chosen will ensure that the assets are perpetual, and that the church preservation fund has an annual framework of NOK 500 million for the restoration of church buildings. In years when the proceeds from the Endowment Fund of the Church of Norway are less than NOK 500 million, the remaining amount will be allocated through the national budget. This will apply until the state’s commitment has been fulfilled. In this way, the fund can contribute to the preservation of churches far into the future.»
