Pure enthusiasm and clean energy
Trees with fresh, light-green leaves and snow-capped mountain peaks provided the backdrop for the opening of Kupekraft and Øvrebø power plants in beautiful Jølster in Sunnfjord on the last day of May. And when landowners in the power plant area provided both Hardanger fiddle tunes and locally produced, non-alcoholic wine, enthusiasm was high when the ribbon was finally cut. Kupekraft had already been producing electricity for a few months, but former mayor of Jølster Oddmund Klakegg and Clemens Kraft director Knud Nørve were responsible for the official opening.
The two power plants will produce more than 35 MWh of electricity, enough for 1,800 households. In the process, Clemens Kraft has used local contractors, suppliers and professional communities, so the development has beneficial ripple effects for local businesses and provides income for the landowners. The municipal coffers also receive an annual million-kroner boost through property tax, but even more important is the contribution these two power plants, along with the other 51 power plants in Clemens Kraft’s portfolio, make by supplying clean energy to households and industry, and the impact this has on the green transition.
